‘Real Bride’Catwalk Show

in aid of Belfast Rape Crisis Centre - 18 February 2009 - Belfast Hilton

Deborah Rose Bridal hosted the ‘Real Bride’ Catwalk Show on Wednesday 18 February 2009 at the Belfast Hilton Hotel.

It was after watching a BBC Documentary about the Belfast Rape Crisis & Sexual Abuse Centre’s work and lack of funding that Debbie decided to organise an event to raise funds.

Her idea?  To showcase past dresses together with the new 2009 collection.  So Debbie contacted a selection of her brides, already married, to see if they would be willing to strut their stuff for the charity, and as you would imagine, most girls jumped at the opportunity to wear their gowns for a second time.  In all there were 36 past brides and bridesmaids from 2006, 2007 & 2008 modeling their gowns.

The show was hosted by UTV’s Marc Mallet and the 2009 collection was modeled by some friends and also featured Citybeat Breakfast Show host Vicky Pitchers and Newsreader Claire Miller.  The event featured interviews with Superintendent Karen Baxter, Head of PSNI Rape Crime Unit, and also Eileen Calder of the Rape Crisis Centre, both of whom work with the victims of rape and sexual abuse.

Also included in the event was a bridal make-up demonstration by Bobby Brown make-up at Debenhams and a self defence demonstration by Jim McCausland of Defence Sense.  The bridal bouquets and floral decorations were sponsored by Lazy Daisys Florist, Ballygowan.

The Evening was finished off with a prize draw and in all the total figure raised for the charity was £2105 and Debbie would like to thank everyone who participated and all those who attended.
